Expanding Our Board: A Call for Leaders in Financial Education

The Bay Area Financial Education Foundation (BAFEF) is embarking on an exciting new chapter in our journey. While the financial world continues to evolve, our commitment remains steadfast: ensuring everyone has access to the foundational financial knowledge they need to thrive. From understanding basic budgeting to learning about investing, these fundamental skills continue to be the building blocks of financial wellbeing for our community members.

The recent passage of California Bill 2927 has brought renewed attention to financial literacy in our communities. While this legislation marks an important step forward, we recognize that building strong financial foundations takes time, dedication, and a deep understanding of our community's diverse needs. Many members of our community are still working to master basic financial concepts, while others are ready to navigate more complex financial decisions. 

Enter BAFEF 2.0 – our initiative to strengthen and expand our impact in financial education. We're thoughtfully building upon our years of experience serving our community. This next phase of our work requires maintaining our commitment to foundational financial education while preparing for future opportunities and challenges.

To support this vision, we're expanding our board with two key positions that will be instrumental in shaping our future:

  • Governance-Focused Board Director: We're seeking an experienced leader who understands the importance of strong organizational foundations. This board member will help ensure our programs and services remain accessible and relevant to all community members, particularly those most in need of basic financial education. If you have experience in board leadership and share our commitment to inclusive financial education, we want to hear from you.

  • Fundraising-Focused Board Director: To sustain and grow our impact, we're looking for a dynamic individual to lead our fundraising initiatives. This role is perfect for someone who understands the critical importance of financial literacy at all levels and can help secure the resources needed to serve our community effectively. Whether your background is in corporate or non-profit fundraising, your expertise will help us reach more community members with essential financial education.

These roles represent more than just board positions – they're opportunities to strengthen the financial foundations of our community. Our organization may be small in size, but our impact is profound. We believe that mastering fundamental financial skills is the first step toward building stronger, more resilient communities.
